Samhain marks the beginning of the Celtic year, when a season of darkness begins and the veil between the worlds grows thin. It is a time to honour the ancestors. Samhain is a fire festival, but the traditional Samhain bonfires have largely transferred to the 5th of November. Old Glory carried our own fire into Rumburgh in the form of flaming torches and the Jack O’Lantern. The illuminated hollowed-out turnips and pumpkins represent the bringing home of the Samhain fire for the winter to come. |
